Who are We?

We are a group of like-minded SPE and/or AAPG members, whose only interest is to protect the pride and the legacy of petroleum professionals and their separate professional organizations

Open Letter to SPE Members:

We, the undersigned, write this letter to express our disagreement with the rationale for the proposed merger of SPE and AAPG, disapproval of the proposed new mission and vision statements, and the disappointment with the decision to bring the proposal to membership vote with many unknowns, open questions, and ambiguous references to future decisions.

… contrary to the portrayal on the official AAPG-SPE Merger site, no consensus has been established for the necessity of a merger. Discussions on many social media platforms alarmingly indicate the resentment of a significant portion of the members in both SPE and AAPG.

… the appeals for an open and exhaustive discussion and a fully disclosed plan have been disregarded and the merger proposal has been moved for the membership vote. This leaves us with no other option but to urge our fellow SPE members to vote NO on the proposed merger ballot.

SPE Staff is rushing to go to a membership vote while skipping proper board of director's oversight in a timely manner. So much is unclear. There is no word on if a merger financial and legal due diligence has been conducted. SPE staff decided that we must have a vote on the merger to give them a blank check to decide NewOrg's name, bylaws and direction after the vote. The voting packages are supposed to arrive in mail? to members and the voting will be open March 4th to May 5th, 2022 (Now Postponed!). There is no information on who will count the votes and how voting can be monitored. Many concerned SPE members have been raising their voices to SPE's flawed and one-sided process and urging their fellow members to VOTE NO! Below are some of those posts and opinions from SPE Members. SPE Opposition
